We are making some changes in the way we apply Nitrogen to our corn on some of our acres this year. Instead of using NH3 preplant we are going to side dress about 1/3 of our corn acres with 32 or 28% liquid nitrogen when the corn is up. This is a more efficient way to give the corn nitrogen in a no-till situation. We also intend on a few acres to cut back on the NH3 pre amount & side dress some liquid making a “split application” of the nitrogen. In tested areas this type of nitrogen utilization has proven to increase corn yields by as much as 30 bushels/ acre. We will know more this fall. Pictured is the new liquid applicator & tractor I will be using for this.
